NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to quash the proceedings against Congress Member of Parliament Sajjan Kumar going on in a trial court for allegedly using offensive language against a person belonging to a Scheduled Caste. However, a Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice R.S. Sodhi and Justice P.K. Bhasin granted him exemption from personal appearance in the trial court. The High Court had in March this year granted anticipatory bail to the MP from Outer Delhi in the case. Chattar Singh Racchoya, the complainant in the matter, had earlier this year filed a complaint in the trial court under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act accusing Mr. Kumar of addressing him in an offensive language and abusing him for contesting an election against a Congress candidate for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 2002.
