NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), formerly known as National Open School, has made changes in respect of supporting documents for age and residence proofs of those born before or after January 26, 1989, as mentioned in the prospectus earlier. As per the new provisions, all candidates, irrespective of whether they were born on or before January 26, 1989, may submit an attested copy of the birth certificate issued by a municipal authority or by the Registrar of Births and Deaths. They can also submit an attested copy of the date of birth certificate from the school last attended or transfer certificate or affidavit sworn before a first class magistrate stating nationality and the date of birth. Earlier, those born before January 26, 1989, were supposed to submit only the affidavit sworn before a first class magistrate stating nationality and the date of birth. Similarly, NIOS had earlier stipulated that the candidates seeking admission to its secondary level course will have to produce his or her ration card, appointment letter from the employer on an official letterhead, utility bills, bank statements, voter identity card, income tax returns or parents' passports (in case of minors) as residence proofs. Now, the candidates will have to produce any proof of the current rented accommodation (along with any proof of permanent residence). NIOS has extended the last date for admission to the secondary course till September 10 with a late fine of Rs. 100.
