One held for old woman's murder

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 94-year-old woman at Old Rajinder Nagar in Central Delhi on August 25. While the police claim to have recovered a stolen jewellery item from his possession, a hunt has been launched for his younger brother and another accomplice.

Kaushalya Bhalla was found strangled with her hands and legs tied in the kitchen of her house. There were signs of ransacking in the house raising suspicion that the murder had been committed for robbery.

Investigations led the police to one Kalimuddin, a resident of Patel Nagar, who worked as a security guard. While verifying his antecedents, they learnt that he was a resident of Katihar in Bihar and was involved in criminal cases there. He had also been booked for theft at the Kirti Nagar police station here.

During interrogation, Kalimuddin allegedly confessed to his involvement in the case. He allegedly disclosed that his brother, Mohsin (25), who worked as a labourer near Ms. Bhalla's house, planned the robbery as the woman was living alone. Kalimuddin, Mohsin and his accomplice then allegedly conspired to murder Ms. Bhalla and steal the valuables kept in the house.

The three murdered Ms. Bhalla and vanished from the scene after stealing some jewellery kept in the house. The police launched a hunt for the other two accused.

`Drug peddler' held

NEW DELHI: A Bangladeshi national was arrested on charges of drug peddling at Greater Kailash in South Delhi on Thursday. The police claim to have recovered 1.3 kg of smack from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off that a person possessing drugs would come to Greater Kailash, the police laid a trap and arrested the accused, later identified as Abu Tahir. Initially he claimed that he was from Jharkhand and had been living in Bawana in North-West Delhi. But during interrogation he allegedly disclosed that he was from Bangladesh.
