AFFECTION: Ravichandran and Mallika in `Odahuttidavalu'
Cast: Ravichandran, Srinivasamurthy, Rangayana Raghu, Adi Lokesh, Komal, Sadhu Kokila, Mallika, Radhika, Rakshita and Ashalatha Stated to be a remake of Cheran's Tamil hit, "Porkalam", Om Saiprakash's "Odahuttidavalu" is an average family entertainer on affection, love, conflict and sacrifices. Depicting the lifestyle of potters and weavers, the director overlooks the subtleties of the plot. Though the film is in no way comparable to its original version in terms of maintaining the narrative craft and intensity of situations, Saiprakash spares the plot with some poignancy and decency.
Lack of insight
However, lack of insight into the plot and subplots and undue interpolations have accommodated a free play of vulgarity and farce at the visual and dialogue levels. Contrary to the director's belief that such a free play of things would help him to exercise his hold on the audience, the pace of the film and its unrealistic situations interfere with the flow of the main drama.
Problems
The story is about potter Puttaraju (Ravichandran) caught in the web of immeasurable affection towards his deaf sister, Puttamalli (Mallika), the fate of two girls, Alamelu (Radhika), and Gowri (Rakshita), who are in love with him, and the problems created by his irresponsible father (Rangayana Raghu).
Excel
On the performance front, though Radhika, Rakshita and Mallika excel, it is Rangayana Raghu and Ashalatha who stand out. G.S.V. Sitaram's photography is pleasing.
