ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties in Pakistan will hold a protest rally in Quetta, the capital town of Balochistan province, on September 17 to protest the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. The Government's decision to bury Nawab Bugti without involving any of his family members has sparked all-around condemnation. While the controversy over the killing raged, authorities in Dubai are reported to have extradited Ghazan Marri, one of the alleged leaders of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army. Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said earlier this week the extradition was not connected to the death of Bugti. The BLA is a shadowy group linked to several bomb attacks on gas pipelines and infrastructure in Balochistan. Although not established yet, the BLA is thought to function under Balach Marri, the son of Nawab Khair Buksh Marri, the sardar of the Marri tribe. The Dawn reported on Saturday that Mr. Ghazan Marri, described as one of the founders of the BLA, was now in the custody of intelligence agencies in Pakistan and was being tried in an anti-terrorist court.
