KOLLAM: Excise Circle Inspector C. Jayakumar, who sustained serious head injuries in an attack by a hooch mafia at Kariyilakulangara on July 16, was discharged on Friday from a private hospital here. Mr. Jayakumar was under treatment for the past 45 days. He was unconscious for more than 10 days.

The gang attacked Mr. Jayakumar during a raid on a spirit den at Kariyilakulangara. The attack became controversial following allegations that the assailants had strong links with the ruling party.

Excise Commissioner D. Venu met Mr. Jayakumar at the hospital on Friday. Assistant Excise Commissioner in Kollam K.N. Mohanlal said Excise Minister P.K. Gurudasan said the Government would extend all help for Mr. Jayakumar's treatment. He would be taken to Bangalore for further treatment.
