KOTTAYAM: Onam celebrations sponsored by the district authorities will be inaugurated by Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Home and Tourism, at a special function arranged at the Police Parade Grounds at 11 a.m. on Sunday, District Collector Raju Narayana Swamy has said. The celebrations, which would continue till September 9, would begin with Chakyarkooth by Pothiyil Narayana Chakyar at 4.30 p.m. This would be followed by a dance programme by cine artist Shobhana. Ottanthullal by Pala K.R. Moni and Five Star Mega Show-06 by TV artistes would be the main attractions on Monday. Kalaripayattu, dance programme by Thara Kalyan, Kakkarassi Natakom, ganamelas by K.S. Chitra and Jyotsna and presentation of Theyyam were scheduled during the following days. The valedictory function on September 9 would be preceded by folk music and magic show by Gopinath Muthukad. Curtains would come down with a dance recital by cine artist Sukanya, Mr. Swamy said.
