Students submit memorandum to Sonia

NEW DELHI: Some students who appeared for the Union Public Service Commission-conducted Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination-2006 met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday and submitted a memorandum relating their grievances.

They urged Ms. Gandhi to order an enquiry into "irregularities'' in the exams. Among other things, they sought separate cut-off marks for every subject, details of marks obtained by each candidate and model answers-sheets of each subject.

Workshop on status of Muslims

NEW DELHI: The Dr. Ambedkar Chair in Social Justice at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) here organised a daylong workshop on "Social, economic and educational status of Muslims: Problems and policy options" over the weekend.

IIPA Director Sanjeev Reddy delivered the inaugural address. Eminent scholars from Central universities in Delhi and Aligarh, social activists, civil servants and legal experts spoke at length on issues such as socio-economic and educational profile of Muslims in the country.

Focus on high blood pressure

NEW DELHI: Long working hours could lead to a greater risk of high blood pressure, according to Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal.

Quoting a study, Dr. Aggarwal said people who worked 40 hours a week were 14 per cent more likely to have high blood pressure than those who worked 11 to 19 hours a week. To control high blood pressure, Dr. Aggarwal suggested plenty of physical exercise, a proper diet and a job that offers satisfaction.
