NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana on Saturday said he would launch a "non-political" struggle to save the historic Neeli Chhatri Mandir and the Gurdwara at Majnu Ka Tila here in the Capital if the Central Government did not intervene and stop the Delhi Development Authority from tinkering with these structures. Addressing workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal near the Neeli Chhatri temple in Yamuna Bazar, the expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader criticised the DDA for tinkering with the structure and also using bulldozers to pull down portions of the ancient Hanuman temple and other religious places. The former BJP leader has also written to the Prime Minister, the Union Urban Development Minister and Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor giving them a 15-day ultimatum to intervene and put an to demolition of historic temples and gurdwaras. Mr. Khurana said the Central Government had displayed insensitiveness by tinkering with structures that even the Mughals and the British had spared. "If the Government does not want anything within 300 metres of the Yamuna, then will it also pull down the Delhi Assembly and the Delhi Secretariat and remove Raj Ghat?" he asked. Mr. Khuranavisited Geetanjali Park where a woman and her two children were allegedly trapped inside the house which had been sealed.
