TIRUCHI: Collector Ashish Vachhani has directed the Government agencies to identify vulnerable areas that were affected by last year's floods and take precautionary measures to prevent inundation during the ensuing monsoon. Chairing a meeting of the consultative meeting on disaster preparedness here on Friday, Mr. Vachhani instructed the Public Works, Revenue and Development Departments to work in tandem and maintain a close vigil on rivers, tanks and channels to ensure that there were no breaches during heavy rains. All panchayat union offices should have adequate stocks of sandbags and the Government buildings to accommodate evacuees should be maintained properly.
Corporation, municipal, panchayat and taluk-level officials should identify low-lying areas and initiate precautionary measures.
The Supplies Department would have to ensure adequate stocks of essential commodities and be prepared to move them to affected areas at short notice, he said.
The Fire and Rescue Service Department was told to keep rubber boats ready.
