'Summit' with Maoists soon: Nepal

Amit Dhakal

To cover key political issues such as the status of the monarchy

KATHMANDU: Nepal Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and a member of the team for talks, Pradip Gyawali, said on Saturday the "summit talks" with the Maoists would be held within a week.

The talks would also cover key political issues, including the status of the monarchy during the interim period, and the arms management. He was addressing a press conference in western Nepal.

The Maoists formed a 10-member team led by chairman Prachanda to hold talks.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said, "We have formed the team to genuinely push forward the laggard peace process." However, he rapped the Seven Party Alliance for dilly-dallying with the peace process and "trying" to shy away from the constituent Assembly polls.

PTI reports:

Mr. Prachanda has warned that the rebels would launch another "revolution" centred in the Nepalese capital if an environment was not created for polls. "The seven-party government is not paying enough attention to the peace talks," he said addressing the families of those killed or missing in weeks of violent protests that forced King Gyanendra to give up absolute rule.
