MANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has in-principle approved the proposal for various developmental works in Dakshina Kannada district estimated at Rs. 120 crore. Speaking to the presspersons here on Saturday, district in-charge Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty said the new package would consist of various works such as upkeep of Major District Roads (MDRs), repair on roads, building check dams and vented dams and irrigation facilities.
Sports arenas
Mr. Shetty said the proposal also included completion of work on four sports arena in Sullia, Belthangady, Puttur and Vittla. He said in the past these facilities did not get adequate attention from the Government. However, the Government was keen on completing these soon, Mr. Shetty said. The proposals presented to the Chief Minister were aimed at overall development. It included the upgradation of several Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the district and construction of PHCs where they were needed. In a few places in the district, the PHCs would be upgraded into small hospitals, he added. There were no veterinary care centres in some areas and this was another concern of the Government, he added. The list included funding for a Kannada Rangamandira in Mangalore, two major bridges, one of which was to be built between Sarapady and Kadeshivalaya which at a cost of Rs. 5 crore.
Highways
He said the Chief Minister had directed the department concerned to release Rs. 60 lakh for the repair of the National Highway 48 in the Shirady Ghats and the State national highway limits on which work would be taken up shortly. The director of horticulture would be arriving in Mangalore on Sunday and Mr. Shetty said he would hold talks regarding the development of Kadri Park. He said there were several issues pertaining to the development of the park that needed to be resolved.
