Hollywood comes to Delhi schools

NEW DELHI: They aren't anxious about their Friday releases yet, but with Hollywood's top-notch filmmakers now scouting for talent in Delhi schools it may not be a distant dream either.

Bringing to the Capital their digital filmmaking programme for students ranging in age from eight years to 18b through their international pilot programme, FreshiFilmworx (the in-school outreach arm of the International Family Film Festival) has partnered with Divya Chaya Trust, India, for the ambitious project.

With world peace and international harmony as its long-term focus, the programme hopes to build the foundation for interaction among children worldwide and bring along with it an element of creative education.

FreshiFilmworx has also innovated a digital filmmaking class for "Beyond the Bell'' programme of the Los Angeles Unified School District recently, which is where it originally started its work.

"Our pilot programme in Delhi aims to connect children worldwide through filmmaking. We are also looking at taking this programme to others schools in India and later it will travel to Nigeria. Also through the site www.freshiflix.com we provide students with the tools to collaborate, create and share their stories around the world while nurturing and enhancing literacy skills in media, visual arts, and technology of students,'' said FreshiFilmworx-India International Director Nancy Troxell, speaking at the screening of the film "Back To The Roots" made by students of Chirnajeev Bharati School, Delhi, here on Saturday.

For the programme, FreshiFilmworx has sent two teachers from their "Beyond the Bell" programme including Rich Samuels, a three-time Emmy-award winning filmmaker, to introduce the filmmaking curriculum and create a short film with Chirnajeev Bharati School students.
