A false claim

NEW DELHI: A man was robbed of Rs. 2,500 at Tilak Nagar in West Delhi in the early hours of Friday. Claiming that he was a Sikh, the victim alleged that the robbers chopped off his hair before fleeing. According to complainant Harpreet Singh, the incident took place around 2-30 a.m. when three men forced their way into the house and robbed him of about Rs. 2,500. While fleeing, one of them cut off his hair.

The police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Sonu. However, the victim and about 150 residents of the area gheraoed the Tilak Nagar police station on Saturday night demanding action against the accused. The police said Harpreet, who runs a headgear shop at Tilak Nagar, was not a Sikh.

Onam contest

NEW DELHI: Malayala Manorama is organising a "Pookalam contest'' at Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple in Mayur Vihar Phase-I here this Sunday on the occasion of Onam. Thirty teams will be taking part in this unique contest that involves making of colourful images using flowers.

Suicide by student

NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old first year nursing student allegedly jumped to her death from Moolchand Hospital's hostel building at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi on Friday. Jyoti, who had failed in the first year examination, jumped off the building in the morning. The police recovered two suicide notes in which she said she was taking the extreme step as she did not want to repeat the first year.
