Process of derecognising schools has begun: Horatti

Staff Correspondent

Action is being taken for violating language policy

HUBLI: The process of derecognising 1,416 primary schools that have violated the language policy of the State had already begun and it will be completed in a fortnight, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti has said.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday after attending the educational conference organised by Karnatak University College Teachers' Association, Mr. Horatti said that notices had been served to 1,414 schools across the State.

Already some schools were in the process of being derecognised. The State Government would not keep quiet as these schools, which had taken permission to run classes in Kannada medium, were blatantly violating the language policy, he said. The Minister, however, clarified that the State Government would protect the interests of students of such schools.

On the controversy over singing "Vande Mataram" in educational institutions on September 7, Mr. Horatti alleged that some persons were trying to give a political colour to the issue.

"The circular issued by the Union Government regarding singing of `Vande Mataram' in educational institutions on September 7 has been passed on to the educational institutions," he clarified. Condemning the protest by a few organisations seeking action against schools where "Vande Mataram" would not be sung on that day, Mr. Horatti said there was no question of taking action against the educational institutions.

"Vande Mataram" encouraged many people during the freedom struggle and to commemorate its centenary year the Union Government had issued a circular and it had been conveyed to schools.
