Monsoon vigorous over Tamil Nadu CHENNAI: Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall occurred at many places over Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Mainly dry weather will prevail over Lakshadweep and dry weather prevailed over coastal and north interior Karnataka. The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in centimetres-

Vadipatti (Madurai dt) 11, Sholavandan (Madurai dt) 10, Ketti (Nilgiris dt) and Chamrajnagar 9 each, Kadavur (Karur dt), Musiri and Thathiengarpet (both Tiruchirapalli dt) 7 each. The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimetres are:-

Coonoor 6, Kumarapalayam (Namakkal dt), Omalur (Salem dt), Bhavani (Erode dt), Kothagiri (Nilgiris dt), Peraiyur (Madurai dt), Rajapalayam (Virudhunagar dt) and Nilakottai (Dindigul dt) 5 each, Tiruchengode (Namakkal dt), Salem, Yercaud, Kundha Bridge (Nilgiris dt), Udhagamandalam, Kulithalai (Karur dt) and Sivakasi (Virudhunagar dt) 4 each.

Forecast (Valid until Tuesday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and at a few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Lakshadweep coastal and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Telangana, Rayalaseema and north interior Karnataka.

Outlook for subsequent two days: No significant change.
