PADDY HARVESTING: The State Government has decided to procure paddy at Rs.8.50 a kg from farmers during current season. This is to help small farmers sell paddy at remunerative prices and to avoid forceful buying of paddy by mill owners at extremely low prices. The procurement is in full swing at important centres such as Palakkad, Thrissur, Alaopuzha and Kottayam.
KOCHI: Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (Supplyco) has plans to procure three lakh tonnes of paddy from farmers in the districts of Alappuzha, Kottayam and Palakkad at the rate of Rs.8.50 per kg. Farmers were advised to register for the purpose using forms available at the Maveli stores, Labham markets and Sabari supermarkets before September 15 to get their personal identification number, said a press release here on Sunday. It said that the farmers started online registration for procurement of paddy. The completed applications should be submitted to the approved computer centres, the list of which would be available at the nearest Supplyco outlet. In case the farmers were not able to use an approved computer centre, they could submit their applications at the Supplyco outlet where they get the registration forms, the release said.
