Rajasthan shocks fancied Maharashtra

NEW DELHI: Sami Johnson caused the biggest upset at the inter-State squash meet as Rajasthan defeated fancied Maharashtra 2-1 to make it to the semifinals at the Delhi Gymkhana Club here on Sunday.

Johnson started brightly against Maharashtra's top seed Harjinder, but the later fought back in style. In the final game, Harjinder led 6-2 and wasted even a match point as Johnson won 9-3, 7-9, 4-9, 9-5, 10-8.

The results: Pool A: TN bt New Delhi `B' 3-0 (A. Parthiban bt Satwik Joshi 9-3, 9-3, 9-0, Harinder Pal Singh bt Shiv Diwan 9-0, 9-2, 9-2, Parth Sharma bt Pratik Chalia 9-2, 9-2, 9-0).
