NEW DELHI: Breaking away from the monotonous routine, scores of jazzed up cars participated in the 6th Women's Era Family Car Rally here on Sunday. While renowned fashion designer duo Meera and Muzaffar Ali kick-started the fun-filled, unique and adventurous rally from Tivoli Garden near Chhattarpur temple in South Delhi, later in the day the rally culminated at the same spot. For the competitors it turned out to be a day of excitement. Coming out in their cars all revved up to participate in the motor sport event, the participants did not have to look far for encouragement; in most cases their own children on the backseats cheered them and shouted with gay abandon all along the rally route. The family car rally based on the concept of speed, distance and time was all about discovering the city better, and networking with the near and dear ones. It was not about speed alone as the competitors drove their vehicles at a maximum average speed of 34 km per hour. The point-to-point clue car rally covered seven checkpoints -- where route marshals noted down the time of arrival of the vehicles -- and the participants swiped a smart card that had been given to them at the start of the rally. During the run, in all the cars the navigator read out a map instructing the driver where to go and where to turn depending on the odometer reading of the car.
