A disappointment

The monsoon session of Parliament was a huge disappointment. Except perhaps the discussion on the India-U.S. nuclear deal, none of the people's concerns was meaningfully addressed. Besides the ugly scene involving the MPs of the JD (U) and the RJD, incidents of slogan shouting and rushing to the well of the House were frequent. The Pathak report and the mole controversy do not concern the common man.

If the credibility of this extremely important democratic institution has to be sustained, we need more informed debates and resolutions.

Pranav Sachdeva,
New Delhi

* * *

The fracas in the Lok Sabha between members of the JD (U) and the RJD was unfortunate. The fact that our MPs almost came to blows is a slur on the functioning of parliamentary democracy. People's representatives should not be allowed to waste public money and time by indulging in such reprehensible acts.

Syed Ali Akber,
Hyderabad
