KSEB lights up bypass stretch using MP's fund

Rajendran allocates Rs.8.36 lakh to install sodium vapour lamps

KOLLAM: An allocation of Rs.8.36 lakh from the Local Area Development Fund of Kollam MP P. Rajendran was utilised by the Kollam circle of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to install 80 sodium vapour lamps in the city.

Deputy Chief Engineer of the KSEB Kollam Circle T.K. Yohan said the sodium vapour lamps were installed along the National Highway bypass from Ayathil to Kallumthazham and within the Government Guest House compound at Asramam.

During April-August this year, 736 connections were given under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category in the circle which comprises the KSEB divisions of Kollam, Chathannur and Karunagappally. In August, 226 BPL connections were given. Mr. Yohan said under the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP), projects worth Rs.1.4 crore for improving the quality of power supply were completed in Paravur in April-August period. The completed work was only 49 per cent of the APDRP targeted for Paravur town. The remaining 51 per cent work worth Rs.2.76 crore would be completed in a time-bound manner, he said. Over 99 per cent of the APDRP work for Kollam city was completed.

Under the People's Plan scheme, 19 works worth Rs.7.3 lakhs were completed in the KSEB circle.

These were mainly electrification extension projects. During April-August period, 25 new transformers were installed in the circle. Of these, nine were installed in August at a cost of Rs.13 lakh. The new transformers were installed mainly for meeting the additional needs in the circle.

Since April this year, almost 6,000 fresh service connections were issued in the circle.
