BANGALORE: Railway Sports Promotion Board upset top seeded Petroleum Sports Promotion Board to clinch the women's title in the all-India inter-institutional table tennis tournament here on Sunday.

Mamata Prabhu displayed excellent temperament to beat both the top and second seeded individuals, Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das to lead her team to a shock win.

Teenager Soumi Mondal also registered an upset win over Mouma Das to contribute to RSPB's 3-1 victory.

Calm and composed

Mamata was calm and composed in her opening match against Poulomi. She had earlier registered victories over Poulomi and Mauma in the semifinals of the all-India institutional tournament in Gurgaon in 2004 though her team lost 2-3 to PSPB that year.

Mamata's win over Poulomi here raised the morale of her side and when Soumi Mondal followed it up with the win over Mouma, the Railways side was bubbling with enthusiasm.

Anindita Chakraborthy was on the verge of making it a clean sweep when she had the championship point at 10-9 but K. Shamini clawed back to win the five game match. Mamata however was too good on the day for Mouma powering her way to a 3-0 win for the title.
