Dubai: An organisation of Kerala Muslims in Qatar has disbursed over Rs.25.56 crore under a unique social security scheme launched six years ago. The Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), marking the sixth anniversary of the scheme, distributed Rs.1.6 million to relatives of four deceased members on the occasion. A total of 56 families benefited from the scheme, which is open for members of the Keralite community. There were more than 4,000 members, The Peninsula quoted a KMCC official as saying. The beneficiaries included two expatriates who suffered permanent disability following accidents in Qatar. Organisations like the Indian Cultural and Arts Society (INCAS), Indian Islamic Association and the Thrissur District Souhrida Vedi already launched similar schemes. Under the scheme, Rs.4,00,000 was handed over to the dependents of a member following his death. This money would be pooled in from other members as small contributions, when one member dies. - PTI
