Navayuga Engineering Team emerges winner

HYDERABAD : Navayuga Engineering Team emerged winner in the team of four duplicate for the Sikandar Azam Trophy of the Secunderabad Club annual Open bridge championship, sponsored by Syndicate Bank here on Sunday.

Nest International Inn (Chennai), Mohata Team of Nagpur finished second and third respectively. In the Board-a-Match event for Dr.S.P. Luthra Trophy, Col V.S.M. Sharma's team clinched the honours, while Kaushik `A' and Kaushik `B' team were second and third respectively.

Ch.V. Rayudu and Dr.Y.V. Rao hogged thelimelight in the open pairs event for Tejmal Surana Trophy while Venkata Raman and Kripakara Moorty and S. Chajed and S. Roy finished second and third respectively.

Nitin Sai Reddy shines

A century by Nitin Sai Reddy (114, 13x4, 1x6) helped All Saint's High School record a 25-run win over St. Andrews High School in the final of the inter-schools cricket tournament here on Sunday.

Sandeep of All Saint's was named `player of the series' and Nitin Sai Reddy `player of the final. Ranji star A.T. Rayudu gave away the prizes.

The scores:

All Saint's HS 222 for nine (Nitin Sai Reddy 114, Shiva 31, Vinay Rao four for 24) bt St. Andrews HS 197 (Vinay Rao 72, P.B. Parashar 36, Wajahatullah three for 44).

Army Green takes trophy

Army Green won the A-division volleyball league championship for the V. Venkatrama Reddy Trophy defeating Income Tax 19-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-12 in the final here on Sunday.

Army fought back remarkably well after losing the first two sets thanks to the excellent coordination shown by Rajesh and Vimesh at the net and Anand doing most of the smashing, picking up points when it mattered most.

V. Hanumanth Rao, MP, gave away the prizes.

Praveen bags a double

Praveen of Satyam bagged a double winning the singles and doubles titles in the Hyderabad Software Exporters Association annual table tennis tournament here on Sunday.

The results (finals):

Men: Singles: Praveen (Satyam) bt Ramu (LVL 7) 11-4, 8-11, 11-7 4-11, 11-9, 11-7.

Doubles: Praveen & Dhananjayan (Satyam) bt Denzil & Shekar (HSBC) 11-3, 11-9, 11-4. Women: Singles: Mousam (HSBC) bt Pratibha (HSBC) 11-7, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8.

CEO Category: Singles: Ramesh Rathi (Keane) bt Shankar Srinivasan (Cognizant) 11-7, 11-8, 11-5. Doubles: Bipin Chandra (Knoah) & Shankar (Capital IQ) bt Susanto Misra (Motorola) & Krishna (Nimaya) 11-9, 12-10, 11-6.

Double for KBN College

KBN College won a grand double by winning both the men's and women titles in the Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-collegiate table tennis tournament, at the DAR College, Nuzvid, on Sunday.

The men's team defeated Andhra Loyola College 3-2, while the women outplayed Maris Stella College 3-0. Koneru Engineering College took the third sport in both the sections.

St. John's wins boys' title

St. John's HSS (Gannavaram) and Vishwa Shanthi English Medium School won the boys' and girls' overall championship in the A.P. State invitational inter-school and college karate championship at Vijayawada on Sunday. Over 350 young karatekas from six districts took part in the championship.
