Cricket
HYDERABAD: Left-arm spinner Tushar Saha (five for 40) bowled a wonderful spell to fashion Tripura's innings and 13-run win over Goa. Goa was bowled out for 144 on the second day of the three-day first round match in the all-India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at the Gymkhana grounds here on Sunday. It was a fine effort by Tushar considering the fact that medium-pacer Gopesh Bhowmick, who claimed six wickets in the first innings, had to pull out due to cramps. Tripura coach and former Test star Karsan Ghavri was all smiles at the end of the match.
Disappointment for Anil
Tushar got admirable support from the outfield as all the mistimed lofted shots by the Goan batsmen were held. It was a big disappointment for Goa's Anil Naik (five for 54) as his effort to restrict Tripura to 211 went in vain. At the Uppal Stadium, BSNL put up an improved display in the second essay scoring 133 for four to gain an overall lead of 25 runs with 20 overs still remaining to set HCA President's XI a competitive target. Earlier, President's XI resuming at 78 for two scored 265 in 89.5 overs with Mohd. Shakir (62, 2x6, 6x4) being the top-scorer. Railways was sitting pretty with a massive lead of 372 runs against Combined Districts with still three overs to go at the Railway Grounds. The scores: At Uppal: BSNL 157 & 133 for four in 20 overs (Monish Mishra 52 batting, Joginder Sharma 61) vs. HCA President's XI 265 in 89.5 overs (Mohd Shakir 62, S. Anoop Pai 45). At Gymkhana: Goa 54 & 144 in 39.1 overs (Tushar Saha five for 40) lost to Tripura 211 in 78 overs (Bappa Das 64, Anil Naik five for 54). At RRC: Railways 313 & 223 for five in 37 overs (Sumit Biswal 71, Dhiren Salvi 57 batting) vs. Combined Districts 164 in 69.2 overs (Ritam Kundu five for 65). At NFC: Jharkhand 288 vs. Assam 386 for seven in 90 overs (Parag Das 77, Jason Lamare 63, P. Sarupam 60, Chandan Rawat 57, Nishant Bordoloi 50 not out). Principal Correspondent
