CHENNAI: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary N. Varadarajan criticised All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Jayalalithaa for launching a "personal attack" on Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on the proposal to create a satellite town in Kancheepuram district. (The project has since been dropped) Dubbing Ms.Jayalalithaa's remarks "unhealthy", Mr. Varadarajan said in a statement here on Sunday that if the former Chief Minister had any genuine objection, she could have asked the Government to drop the proposal. But she had launched a personal attack against Mr. Karunanidhi and his family members and relatives. Defending the CPI (M)'s decision to participate in the tea party hosted by the Chief Minister on Friday, he said the party MLAs decided to boycott a similar tea party during the previous AIADMK rule as a mark of protest against the "repressive policies" adopted by the then Government.
