CHENNAI: The Government will soon bring in laws on the proposed maritime university and national inland waterways, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T. R. Baalu said on Sunday.
Campaign inaugurated
Inaugurating a four-day information campaign of the Centre's Bharat Nirman programme at Okkiyam Thoraippakkam near here, he said the Cabinet's approval for the university was expected shortly. It recently approved the plan to bring the Buckingham Canal under the scope of the national inland waterways.
Funds for improvement
of roads
His Ministry set apart Rs. 117 crore for Tamil Nadu for improvement of roads, Mr. Baalu said. State Minister for Housing Suba Thangavelan lauded the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre for executing the Sethusamudram project. Minister of State for Law and Justice K. Venkatapathy said that emulating the example of Tamil Nadu, the Union Government would soon enact a law, providing equal rights to women in property.
