MYSORE: Bahurupi-2006, the annual national theatre festival organised by the theatre repertory, Rangayana, will start on December 7. It will be based on the theme, `Culture-Agriculture,' to highlight the agrarian crisis plaguing the country. Chidambara Rao Jambe, director of Rangayana, told presspersons here on Sunday that the six-day national theatre festival would feature theatre groups from across the country, the list of which was yet to be finalised. "Two days prior to the commencement of the festival, plays will be staged in the rural areas around Mysore city. The festival will aim at boosting the sagging morale of agriculturists at a time when the agriculture sector was in trouble," he said. A proposal seeking funds from the Government for Bahurupi had been submitted, he added. The theme, "Culture-Agriculture," had been chosen as agriculture was the basis for all societies and cultures and that problems in agriculture would reflect in culture too. "Not every play will revolve around the theme of agriculture, as it will become difficult to hold on to the interests of the audience, Mr. Jambe said. The B.V. Karanth Yuva Ranga Samskriti, a theatre festival for college students of Mysore, would commence on September 6. Those who had undergone the short-term theatre training programme would stage plays. The five-day festival would be inaugurated by theatre personality Prema Karanth, he added. "The theatre programme was conducted for 45 days in select colleges in the city, and the students would be staging plays directed by the late Karanth." Among the colleges participating in the festival include Maahajana College, Maharaja College, Maharani College, J.S.S. Women's College and Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts . The plays that will be staged during the five-day festival are Beralu Hididu Nedasida; Belli Tereya Geleya; G.K. Mastarara Pranaya Prasanga; Katheyadavara Kathe; Bayalagabeku; Motiba; and Kanna Muchi Kadegode. Two plays will be staged on each day of the festival at Bhoomigeeta Auditorium in Rangayana.
