Rebate scheme to yield 25-cr. benefit for weavers

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Weavers in the State are expected to benefit to the extent of Rs. 25 crores in the next three years following re-introduction by the Centre of the scheme for reimbursement of one-time rebate of ten per cent on sale of handloom products.

T. Satyanarayana Rao, Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles, said in a press release that re-introduction of the scheme from April 1would provide marketing support to the primary handloom weavers' cooperative societies and apex cooperatives.

It would supplement their marketing efforts. According to the release, the societies and apex organisations will allow the rebate for 128 days in a year for approved festivals. The demand for a ten per cent rebate had been pending for a long time.
