Did the show turn out to be a disappointment?

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In her speech at the Congress rally on Sunday, AICC president Sonia Gandhi observed that by "defrauding" the Congress and joining hands with the "communal" BJP in forming another coalition Government, the Janata Dal (Secular) had got what it wanted but not the State.

Although it would be too early to measure the political outcome of the rally, many in the party itself have admitted that they were disappointed as Congress as a party failed to put up a befitting show that matched what it had projected and claimed.

The Congress had repeatedly projected that September 3 would be a D-day for the coalition Government. Many senior leaders had claimed that would lead to the "sudden death" of the Government, as many persons from other parties, including the BJP, would join the Congress in the presence of Ms. Gandhi.

Although no such wishful dramatic things happened but for a one-line statement that the AIPJD had merged with the Congress.
