NEW DELHI: "After two hours of a high fatty meal doing a little exercise can reverse the potential damage to the heart arteries. One does not need a gym, just walking is good enough,'' Dr. K. K. Aggarwal, president of Heart Care Foundation of India, has said. He was speaking at a workshop organised by Indian Medical Association here over the weekend. Quoting a study published in Journal of the American College of Cardiology, he said high fat diet can reduce the body's ability to protect itself against heart disease. The fatty meal reduces the ability of the body's "good" cholesterol to protect the inner lining of the arteries from inflammatory substances that promote vessel-clogging plaque, he added.

National convention of chemical engineers

NEW DELHI: Former Defence Minister K.C. Pant said the 21st Century is an era for surging development of green petroleum science and technology. Along with the environmental consciousness of the international community, to reduce environmental pollution and achieve sustainable development have become common and pressing task for the world petroleum industry, he said after inaugurating a two-day "National Convention of Chemical Engineers'' organised by Delhi State Centre, Institute of Engineers, over the weekend.

More than 100 chemical engineers took part in the two-day seminar. They discussed green fuel technologies and environment safety aspects in the oil and gas industry. The theme of the convention was "Latest Advances in Petroleum and Petrochemical Industries''.

Award for 100 municipal teachers

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri will award 100 municipal teachers for their meritorious services in the field of education at a function at Shah Auditorium here this Tuesday on the occasion of Teachers' Day. They were chosen from a total strength of 18,000 teachers. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, a commendation certificate and a memento. Municipal teachers will also present a cultural programme on the occasion.

Ex-Servicemen

call on Sheila

NEW DELHI: A 15-member delegation of National Ex-Servicemen Coordination Committee, Delhi, called on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at her residence here on Thursday. The delegation apprised the Chief Minister about their problems and requested her to allot a free accommodation to the organisation to set up an office. Ms. Dikshit assured the delegation that the Delhi Government was committed to the honourable re-settlement of war widows, ex-servicemen and dependants of ex-servicemen.
