MANGALORE: After taking care of the "Lok Ayukta" officials, Dakshina Kannada district police on Sunday arrested a senior "Indian Administrative Service officer of the rank of Joint Secretary, and his personal assistant" on charge of impersonation. B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police said he received information that Subramanya Sharma, a "1986 batch IAS officer" was on tour and halting at the circuit house here. However, the Superintendent of Police immediately scoured the website of Union Government for details on this "officer", but couldn't find the name there. Mr. Dayanada made further enquiries with 1986 batch IAS / IPS officers in the State and confirmed that the person who had come to the circuit house was an imposter. When the Superintendent of Police confronted the "senior IAS officer" at the circuit house, things began to fall in place. On enquiry, he admitted his crime and was arrested, Mr. Dayananda said. Heb said Sharma and his "personal assistant" Nagraj had visited many places in Udupi and Uttara Kannada in the same guise. Sharma, originally from Andhra Pradesh and since settled in Delhi, is working for a private company. Nagraj, is a "room boy" at a lodging facility in Shirdi. The Udupi district police had provided an official vehicle for Sharma and his assistant to commute in Udupi.
