CHENNAI : The State Government should take stern action against persons who reportedly pose as bishops, archbishops and indulged in illegal acts.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore A M Chinnappa has appealed to the public not to get carried away by some people who claimed to be bishops.

Recent reports in the media that some people, who claimed to be bishops and allegedly indulged in illegal acts, had caused concern among the community.

The Bishop, in a signed statement, mentioned the responsibilities and the role of bishops and archbishops. Teaching, sanctifying and governing are the three basic functions of the bishops, which is in vogue from time immemorial around the globe. The government should, forthwith, take action as per the law against people who posed themselves as Bishops and indulged in illegal acts.
