Coast Guard put on alert

CHENNAI:
Coast Guard units in Orissa have been put on alert in view of the flood situation in the State. According to a press note issued by the headquarters of the Coast Guard Eastern Region here, a rescue and relief team and a medical team are standing by at the Coast Guard station at Paradip for deployment at short notice.
A CG Offshore Patrol Vessel, CGS Vivek, has reached the Paradip port from Visakhapatnam to assist in relief operations.
A CG helicopter is being positioned at Paradip at request of the State Government for rescue and relief operations. The helicopter will operate from Bhubaneswar and Pardip as required by the State Government and as warranted by the flood situation.
A Dornier aircraft each at Chennai and Kolkatta have been kept ready for ferrying relief material and for aerial survey of the flooded areas. It will also be used to move additional forces.
The CG District Head Quarters-7 (Orissa) is in touch with the authorities and is participating in the relief operations.
