Engineers seek pay parity with IT sector

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A body representing engineers of State Governments and members of the Central Engineering Service has expressed its concern over the growing neglect of the professionals. It has sought constitution of an Engineering Commission to look into their remuneration and service conditions. The Indian Engineers' Federation wants engineers to be made heads of technical departments and government undertakings and removal of disparities in career values between the engineering and administrative services.

A resolution, passed by the Federation at the mid-term council meeting of its southern regional unit here on Sunday, said it would make a representation to the Sixth Pay Commission stressing the need for pay-scales to the professionals on a par with those in the information technology sector.

The meeting, organised by Tamilnadu Engineers Federation, was attended by the members from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.
