Staff Reporter

Contains details on activities, history Among his achievements so far, he listed the inclusion of Self Help Groups under the department of Local Administration

CHENNAI : The official website of Exnora International was launched by the Minister for Local Administration and Rural Development, M.K. Stalin, here on Sunday.

The organisation formed by civic associations that promote waste management, water body protection and environmentally sound practices in their respective areas can now be found online at www.exnorainternational.org.

Mr. Stalin reminded the audience of various election promises that were kept by the government and said that they would only be able to continue that record with the support of such non-governmental organisations.

Among his achievements so far, he listed the inclusion of Self Help Groups under the department of Local Administration. This would immensely improve their functioning by giving them direct access to local body leaders, he said.

Sulochana Ramaseshan, president, Exnora International, also offered to join hands with the Chennai Corporation in making Chennai a zero-waste zone.

The site contains information on Exnora's activities, history, contact information for local associations and applications for joining Exnora.

It is being hosted by the Bharatmatrimony group of websites. Murugavel Janakiraman, founder and head of the group, was given the Corporate Social Responsibility award for involvement with social causes like blood donation.

The flagship www.bharatmatrimony.com of the group has a special scheme where a sapling would be planted on behalf of couples that have met and married through the site, with their names printed on the tree guard. It is planned to plant around 100 saplings in the city in the first phase of the scheme.
