Parasailing organised

at Bolghatty

KOCHI: The Kerala Village and Adventure Tourism Promotion Council, in association with the District Tourism Promotion Council and the district administration, will organise parasailing on September 6 at Bolghatty island. Hunger strike planned

KOCHI: Southern Railway Licensed Porters' Union will organise a hunger strike on September 5 in front of the Ernakulam South Railway station. The stir is part of the dharna being organised from September 1. The porters have been opposing privatisation and demanding job security. The Cochin Corporation Deputy Mayor C.K. stage dharna

KOCHI: Various trade unions will stage a dharna in front of the Indian Rare Earths (IRE) unit at Udyogamandal on September 4. Their demands include restoration of appointment to dependents of employees who died in harness. K. Chandran Pillai, MP, will inaugurate the dharna, a press release said. — Staff Reporter

Child rescued

from woman

KOCHI: `Childline' activists and the police rescued a four-month-old child from a woman who was seeking alms in the streets. The woman, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, reportedly used to keep the child in an unconscious state by administering intoxicants. After begging, the woman used to hand over the child to another woman, `Childline' activists said. — Staff Reporter

Janta Dal (U) candidates elected

KOCHI: All the six candidates of Janta Dal (U) have been elected to the board of directors of the Cooperative Supply and Marketing Society at Agatti island. This is the second consecutive term that the JD(U) is coming to power in the Society, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter
