`Public governance a challenge'

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Even though the country is surging ahead in terms of a growing economy, challenges that lie before India are poor public governance and the digital divide, Samuel Paul, former director of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad and a U.N. consultant, said here on Sunday. Giving a lecture on the theme "Emerging India: a Critical Assessment," at a programme organised by Young Men's Christian Association along with other voluntary organisations, including BIRD and Fireflies, Dr. Paul said that globalisation and opening up of the economy had brought prosperity to many Indians but it had also widened the gap between the rich and the poor. It was for the Government, specially the State Government, to bridge this rich-poor gap.
