Three held on charges of theft

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police arrested Syed Ali, 27, Nias, 29, and Shafi, 22 on charges of theft of mobile phones. They were taken into custody by a team led by sub-inspector Sheen Tharayil. According to the police, the three stole about 40 mobile phones from the KSRTC bus stand premises. The stolen mobiles were sold to some shops in the Beemappally area, the police added. - Staff Reporter

Railway reservation centres timing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In connection with Onam, all computerised passenger reservation centres of the Southern Railway would function only between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 5, a press note here on Sunday said. - Staff Reporter

Onam advance returned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The women who gather grass for the horses of the Kerala Mounted Police decided to return the Onam advance given to them by the State Government. According to a press note here on Sunday, women who have more than 40 years of service were given only Rs.125 as Onam advance, that too on the condition that it would be paid back in five instalments. The women were not given any other allowance or bonus. The Kerala Mounted Police Grass Cutting Women Welfare Association has also written to the Chief Minister demanding higher wages and allowances, the press note added. - Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chitrakalamandalam has invited applications from school and college students for training in painting to be held on all Saturdays and Sundays. More than 15 painters will handle classes at the training sessions. Chitrakalamandalam will supply the necessary drawing material free of cost to the students who enrol for this programme. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district committee of the `Purogamana Kalasahitya Sanghom' will organise a two-day workshop on the contributions of the Italian revolutionary Antonio Gramsci at the EMS Academy on September 23 and 24, a press note here on Sunday said. Classes on Gramsci's philosophy and practise, his life and times, his thinking on education and Gramsci's thoughts on fascism would be held at the workshop, a press note issued here today said. - Staff Reporter
