Plea to issue pattas for ex-servicemen
Staff Reporter
RESENTMENT AGAINST RAW DEAL: Ex-servicemen staging a protest at Indira Park on Sunday.
HYDERABAD:
The Andhra Pradesh State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association has asked the Government to keep its promise of providing house sites to ex-servicemen and issue pattas in the land allotted to them at Jawahar Nagar in Ranga Reddy district.
Protesting against the delay, ex-servicemen staged a half-naked demonstration at Indira Park on Sunday as a part of their ongoing agitation for the last five days.
"We will resort to begging on Monday to highlight our problems and expose the Government," said A. Rangaiah Goud, president of the association. The Government allotted 46 acres near Jawaharnagar but had not given pattas to beneficiaries. Criticising official apathy, Mr. Goud said: "We have given numerous representations to officials but they have failed to keep their promise. Is this the way to treat people who had protected the borders and fought against anti-national elements?"
Mr. Goud said that ex-servicemen should be appointed directors of the Sainik Directorates in districts as civilians were not able to understand their problems.
