HYDERABAD: Work on redesigning and beautifying two busy traffic junctions in the Secunderabad Cantonment will begin shortly as part of the Cantonment Board's plans to improve 20 traffic junctions in its jurisdiction. The `bhoomi puja' for the renovation work at Tivoli Junction and the EME Workshop junction near the Sub-Area Canteen will be conducted at 10.30 a.m. on Monday in the presence of Andhra Sub-Area Commander Brigadier DSC Varma, Cantonment executive officer T. Arockianathan and the newly elected members of the Cantonment Board.
Work delayed
The renovation will include straightening of sharp curves near the junctions, widening the roads, setting up more streetlights and putting up pedestrian safety measures including barricaded pavements at both the spots, Dr. Arockianathan said. Meanwhile, work on improving the Jubilee Bus Station junction, which has five roads leading to it from the Secunderabad Club, Lamba Theatre, the NCC Directorate, Diamond Point and Picket, is likely to move into its last stages by next week. "Rains, high cement prices and a subsequent difficulty in finding a contractor and the rain among others things had delayed the work. But now, if the rains stay away, we are sure we can speed up the work by next week," Dr. Arockianathan said.
