Abducted boy rescued from U.P.

NEW DELHI: A two-year-old boy who was abducted at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on August 19 has been rescued from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. The police have arrested a woman in this connection.

The police received a complaint from Prem Kumar alleging that his son, Saurav, had been abducted. During investigations, the police found that a woman, Nayeem, who earlier lived in the neighbourhood, had shown unusual curiosity about the case and had on several occasions enquired about Saurav from his mother.

While verifying her antecedents, the police learnt that Nayeem had left her husband several years ago and was now living with one Shehzad. The police raided his residence, but they had left that place. Area residents informed that a child had been seen with her.

Further investigations led the police to Badayun where they arrested Nayeem and rescued the child.

Inter-school singing competition

NEW DELHI: Vishwa Bharati Public School, Noida, organised "Arghya 2006'', its sixth annual Inter-School Group Classical Singing and Solo Classical Dance (Kathak) Competition at its premises this past week.

Nearly 160 students from 12 schools in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad participated in this music competition. The chief guest on the occasion was sitar maestro Pt. Debu Chaudhary.

The team from Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, bagged the first prize in the group song. Shobana Jha of VBPS Noida was the winner in the Kathak dance competition. The overall trophy instituted by Pt. Debu Chaudhary in memory of his guru Mustaq Ali Khan was awarded to VBPS Noida for scoring the maximum number of points. Delhi Public School, Noida, was the runners-up.

Dance competition in Laxmi Nagar

NEW DELHI: A dance competition was organised on Sunday by Tarun Mitra Parishad and Jain Milan at Shree Digamber Jain Panchayati Mandir in Laxmi Nagar. Thirty-five children participated in the event and gave attractive performances. The chief guest on the occasion was the former Mayor A.R. Verma. Gifts were presented to the winners.

Woman allegedly set on fire

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries after she was allegedly doused with petrol by her sister-in-law in Laxmi Nagar area of East Delhi on Sunday.

Rahisa, a resident of Lalita Park in Laxmi Nagar, was allegedly doused with petrol by her sister-in-law after she had a quarrel over some domestic issue on Saturday morning, according to police.

She was later admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital where doctors said her condition was critical.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested from North-East Delhi for allegedly possessing over 500 duplicate VCDs and DVDs.

Arif (28) anmd Nadeem (32) have been arrested from Welcome area with 481 duplicate VCDs and 87 DVDs, police said on Saturday.

Other recoveries include 247 MP3, 48 software CDs and 363 inlay cards. A case has been registered under Copyright Act, they added.

In another case, one Amit Singhal and his rickshaw puller Shukla were arrested for allegedly possessing 386 packets of reputed brand of firecrackers from M S Park area in North Delhi.
