Sharp rally in rupee

MUMBAI: The rupee appreciated sharply against the U.S. currency and closed at 46.34/35 a dollar due to lack of dollar demand after a fall in crude prices.

Weak dollar against other world currencies also boosted rupee sentiment.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened firm at 46.45/47 against Friday's close of 46.5150/5250 and thereafter, moved in a wide range of 46.2800 and 46.4700, before closing at 46.34/35, remarkably higher than the previous weekend close.
