Dubai civic body cuts power to villas

Dubai: In a move that could hit hundreds of bachelors and labourers, many of them Indians, the Dubai Municipality has started disconnecting electricity to villas housing them.

The civic body identified 1,500 villas being used as workers' accommodation in residential areas where only families are allowed to live. "We have received complaints against labourers who are unruly, drinking alcohol and crowding streets in areas dominated by families. These areas are also inundated with bachelors. They are not allowed to stay single in villas but they can stay in flats," an official said. — PTI
