Hair loses credibility

Hair loses credibility

After ascertaining everything about the happenings in the ball-tampering incident in the past week I am convinced that umpire Darell Hair has lost all his credibility and should never be allowed to officiate in another match. It is also time that we take up seriously what Michael Holding refers to as `first World hypocrisy'.

Is it a sin?

Umpire Darrell Hair has been faulted for enforcing the laws of the game while neglecting the spirit. While the rule is well defined, the spirit is only subjective. Enforcing a certain code is no sin.

Walcott was special

In the death of Clyde Walcott, one of the famous `W trio' of West Indies cricket, the game has lost an all-time great. What makes his achievement special is that he was an all-rounder who could bowl medium-pace or take up the wicket-keeper's gloves. As the first non-British Chairman of the ICC, he conducted himself in a dignified way. More than anything, Walcott was a great admirer of Indian cricket.

Bowler to watch

In Mohammed Asif, Pakistan has a new find, a genuine swing bowler. There is already a comparison with Glenn McGrath. Asif could be the bowler to watch in the forthcoming World Cup.
