Indian Embassy prevents arrest of blaze survivors

Bahraini firm's bid to pressure them to report for work foiled

DUBAI: An attempt by a Bahraini company to get some Indian construction workers and survivors of a labour camp blaze arrested in order to pressure them to report to work has been foiled by the Indian Embassy there.

A company representative visited the workers' temporary labour camp in Askar in Manama on Sunday with two policemen and a lawyer to allegedly take into custody some of the workers.

The general secretary, Coordination Committee of Indian Associations, John Iype, said they visited the camp after workers informed them about a possible plan to take some workers into custody. Indian Embassy second secretary R. Raghunathan also reached the camp.
