B.S. Padmanabhan passes away

B.S. Padmanabhan
NEW DELHI:
B.S. Padmanabhan, retired special correspondent, The Hindu, passed away here on Monday evening after a prolonged illness. He was 79. He is survived by his wife and four sons.
Mr. Padmanabhan joined The Hindu in Chennai on January 1, 1949. He was transferred to the newspaper's bureau in Delhi in May 1961 as a staff correspondent, and later promoted as a special correspondent. He covered various spheres, including Housing, Urban Development and Science and Technology. He took a keen interest in promoting housing for Delhi journalists.
His father, R.R. Bashyam Iyengar, was a chief sub-editor of The Hindu; and his son, P. Sunderarajan, is its special correspondent in New Delhi.
Mr. Padmanabhan was known to be a gentle and helpful person, always willing to mentor his younger colleagues. After his retirement in 1990, he continued to contribute occasional articles to The Hindu and Frontline.
