KURNOOL: Gaiety marked the immersion of Ganesh idols in the city on Monday. Colourful processions were taken out from different corners of the city, which led to the Vinayak Ghat on the banks of the KC canal. This year, idols were installed at 400 places.Enthusiastic youth in colourful costumes and wearing red ribbons around their heads danced to the tunes of music bands. Slogans such as "Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai" rent the air as the procession inched its way to the ghat. According to convention, honorary president of Ganesh Kendra Mahotsava Samithi V. Rambhupal Choudary, Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy and S.V. Mohan Reddy offered prayers to the idol installed at the Rambotla temple in the old city and started the procession.At Vinayak Ghat, president of the Samithi, K.E. Krishnamurthy, Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa, ZP Chairman L. Venkata Swamy, Collector M. Dana Kishore, SP B. Malla Reddy received the first idol and formally immersed it in the K.C. Canal.Working president of the Samithi, Kapileswaraiah, and others fired 26 crackers commemorating completion of 26 years of the organisation. The police were deployed in huge numbers along the procession routes. Traffic was diverted to the National Highway and others parallel routes.
