NEW DELHI: Praveen Tokas of Jugla Singh Tairak Sangh and Harpreet Kaur of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, were adjudged the best swimmers in the boys and girls sections respectively in the 42nd Delhi State junior aquatic championship at the Talkatora Pool here. Jugla Singh Tairak Sangh clinched the overall championship for the 19th year in succession. The results (best swimmers): Boys: Group-I: Praveen Tokas; Group-II: Gaurav Rathi; Group-III: Jayant Mehlawat; Group-IV: Tanway Singhal. Girls: Group-I: Anwesha Hore; Group-II: Harpreet Kaur; Group-III: Tanu Shree; Group-IV: Ruhab Khan.
Shahdara Heroes blanks Faith Club
Yudhvir and Ashok scored a goal each as Shahdara Heroes defeated Faith Club 2-0 in the Delhi hockey league at the Shivaji Stadium here on Monday. In another match, Stance Club beat Invaders Club 5-2 after leading 2-1 at the interval. Jai Bhagwan (2), S. Rawat (2) and Satish scored the goals for the winner. S. Bhatia scored both the goals for the loser. Matharu Club defeated Sonnet Club 3-1, thanks to Yashpal, Satish and Sandeep. Sonnet scored the lone goal through Satish.

61st Cavalry
The Indian Army/61st Cavalry team defeated host Johor Military Forces 6-3 in an invitational polo match in Johor. Lt. Col. Tarun Sirohi, Maj. Ravi Rathore and Lt. Tunku Ismail Ibrahim scored two goals apiece for the Indian team. Mohammed Issam (2) and Mohammed Bin found the target for the host.
St. Stephen's girls
register win
St. Stephen's College defeated Miranda House 51-15 in the women's section of the St. Stephen's invitational basketball tournament here on Monday. In the other matches, Jesus and Mary's College beat Gargi College 49-29 and Indraprastha College got past Lady Sri Ram College 32-30. In the men's category, St. Stephen's overcame Hindu College 70-61.
It's Union Academy
vs GHPS
Union Academy and Guru Harkrishan Public School, Punjabi Bagh, will meet in the final of the D.P. Joshi under-19 hockey tournament here. In the semifinals on Monday, Union Academy defeated Ganga International School 5-1 and GHPS beat Government School (Gurgaon) 5-0. Union Academy scored through Pramod Dhir, Vinod Kumar Singh, Hira Singh, Athar Mirza and Ashok Soni, while Manish reduced the margin for Ganga International. In the other semifinal, the scorers for GHPS were Sajjan Singh (2), Kamlesh Roy, Pramod Kumar and Dhyan Chand.
Delhi Blues
excels in UK
The Delhi Blues CC had much success UK, winning 10 of its 13 matches during the three-week tour. It lost only one match to Yorkshire Cricket Academy while two others were washed out by rain. Hunish Arora topped the batting chart as he accumulated 574 runs at an average of 82, hammering two centuries in the process. Ravi Inder Singh scored 394 while former Test player Vivek Razdan managed 153. Among the bowlers, Pranav Kush topped with 16 wickets and was adequately supported by Gautam Mandora (15), Birender Singh (14), Carran Rastogi (12) and Sukhvinder Singh (10).
Football trials
from Sept. 14 to 30
Trials to select the Delhi sub-junior team for the National football championship to be staged at Haldwani (Uttaranchal) from September 14 to 30 will be held at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. Interested players in the under-16 age group may report to the DSA secretary N.K. Bhatia or coach Shafiq Ahmed at 2.30 p.m. along with their original birth certificate.
