NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday accorded clearance to the resettlement and rehabilitation package plan of Andhra Pradesh Government for Peddavagu (Sri Komaram Bhim) medium irrigation project in Adilabad district. Announcing this, State Government Special Representative Mallu Ravi said here under the plan the affected tribal families would be allotted land in the command area with irrigation facilities and the State would ensure that rehabilitation and resettlement works were complete before the submergence started. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs stipulates that the State Government should also ensure protection of rights enjoyed by tribals and they be granted fishing rights in the proposed reservoir. Dr. Ravi said that the project involved an expenditure of Rs. 274.14 crores. It will provide irrigation to 24,500 acres and provide drinking water to about one lakh population.
